Torrential overnight rainfall triggered a flood-like situation in Rajouri town, causing widespread damage across several areas. Rising water levels inundated residential localities, with floodwaters reportedly reaching the first floors of many houses.
According to local reports, more than a dozen vehicles were swept away by the strong currents since morning. Severe damage was also reported in a nearby slum area, where several huts were washed away.
Officials said the Jammu and Kashmir Police had issued repeated advisories during the night, urging residents living in vulnerable areas to move to safer locations. However, after around 3 a.m., the water level rose rapidly following continuous heavy rainfall, leaving several parts of Rajouri submerged.
Eyewitnesses also claimed that a two-storey house was washed away in the powerful floodwaters, although officials are yet to verify the report.
Rescue and relief teams have been deployed to the affected areas, while authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage. Residents have been advised to avoid flooded areas and follow official safety instructions until the situation improves.
