JPDCL’s Monsoon Warning: Keep Away from Power Poles, Transformers and Street Lights

Jammu: In view of the ongoing monsoon and heavy rainfall, the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) has issued a public safety advisory urging people to stay away from electrical installations to prevent accidents.

The power utility has advised citizens not to stand near electric poles, substations, transformers, or street lights during rain, as water is a good conductor of electricity and can significantly increase the risk of electrocution.

JPDCL said that while the monsoon brings relief from the heat, it also poses serious electrical hazards. Residents have been urged to remain alert, avoid waterlogged areas near electrical infrastructure, and ensure that children do not play close to power installations during or after rainfall.

The department has appealed to the public to immediately report any damaged power lines, leaning electric poles, exposed cables, or other electrical hazards to the concerned authorities instead of attempting to go near them.

Emphasising public safety, JPDCL stated that following basic electrical safety precautions can help prevent accidents and save lives during the rainy season. The utility urged everyone to remain vigilant and cooperate with the department in ensuring a safe monsoon for all.
