Jammu city is set to get relief from its long-standing parking and traffic congestion problem, with work progressing on a multi-level parking facility at the historic Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex.
According to the latest update, around 23 per cent of the physical work on the Mubarak Mandi multi-level parking project has been completed. The project has been allotted to a construction agency, and work has already commenced. The estimated cost of the project is around ₹5.88 crore.
Meanwhile, another multi-level parking project proposed at Parade Chowk has received administrative approval, while its design has also been issued. The projects are expected to provide additional parking space in some of the busiest parts of the old city.
The issue of parking infrastructure was raised in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly by Jammu East MLA Yudhvir Sethi. The Mubarak Mandi area, being an important heritage and tourist destination, frequently witnesses a shortage of parking space, leading to roadside parking and traffic congestion.
Parade Chowk is also one of Jammu’s major commercial, educational and administrative hubs. Areas including Pakka Danga, Purani Mandi, Raghunath Bazaar and Kanak Mandi experience heavy traffic, particularly due to limited parking facilities.
The proposed multi-level parking facilities are expected to help organize vehicle parking and reduce congestion in these busy areas.
