Video Allegedly Showing Cop Collecting ‘Entry Fee’ From Trucker Goes Viral in Kathua, Police Begin Probe

Kathua, September 28: A video allegedly showing a police personnel collecting money from a truck driver at the Lakhanpur check post in Kathua district has gone viral on social media, prompting the police to initiate an inquiry into the matter.

According to the viral video, the incident reportedly took place at the Lakhanpur entry point. A uniformed police personnel is allegedly seen asking a truck driver for money after the driver reportedly failed to produce a billty (lorry receipt).

The driver is seen offering ₹30, while the police personnel allegedly asks for ₹100. The driver subsequently appears to hand over ₹100 before proceeding further.

The Lakhanpur entry point falls under the jurisdiction of the State Taxes Enforcement Wing, Kathua. Officials of the State Taxes Department said their teams are deployed at the entry point for random checking and verification of e-way bills and are required to remain in proper uniform.

Additional Superintendent of Police Kathua, Sunil Kesari, said the matter has come to the notice of the police and the authenticity and circumstances of the video are being verified.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner State Taxes Enforcement, Kathua, Joginder Singh, said the incident shown in the video does not pertain to his department.

Further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry.
