J&K Likely to Witness Season’s First Major Rain, Snowfall Spell from October 8 to 11

Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness the season’s first major spell of rain and snowfall between October 8 and 11, as a strong Western Disturbance is expected to affect the Union Territory, according to the latest weather forecast.

Weather conditions are expected to remain mostly dry across Jammu and Kashmir until October 5. However, a significant change is likely from October 8, with the current possibility of the weather spell estimated at around 55 per cent, according to Kashmir Weather Forecast.

During the expected spell, snowfall is mainly likely over the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, while rain may occur across plains and lower-lying areas. The change in weather could also lead to a noticeable drop in temperatures, particularly in higher-altitude regions.

The forecast, however, cautioned that the assessment is still at an early stage. The exact timing, intensity and geographical spread of the Western Disturbance could change as the system moves closer to the region.

Residents, commuters and tourists, particularly those planning travel to higher-altitude areas, are advised to keep track of updated weather forecasts as the dates approach.

Kashmir Weather Forecast said further updates regarding the system and its expected impact will be issued closer to October 8. The weather situation is therefore likely to become clearer over the coming days as the Western Disturbance approaches Jammu and Kashmir.
