Big Relief for Jammu Commuters, 75 New AC Electric Buses to Expand Public Transport Network

Jammu is set to get 75 new 7-metre, air-conditioned Smart Electric Buses under the Centre’s PM-eBus Sewa programme, giving a major boost to the city’s public transport network. The bidding process has been completed, with PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Private Limited emerging as the lowest bidder (L-1) for the Jammu and Kashmir lot.
Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) has conveyed the bidding outcome to the Jammu and Kashmir administration. The formal award of the contract and remaining administrative formalities are expected to be completed soon, after which the buses will be deployed on designated city routes.
The new buses will be 7 metres long, standard-floor and fully air-conditioned. Their smaller size is expected to make them particularly suitable for congested and narrower routes in Jammu city, while the AC interiors will provide passengers with a more comfortable journey, especially during the summer months.
At present, Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) operates 100 Smart Electric Buses in the city, comprising 25 buses of 12 metres and 75 buses of 9 metres. In addition, another 25 12-metre electric buses are being added to the fleet, with their contract signed in August 2026 and manufacturing currently underway.
With the latest addition, Jammu will have a diversified electric bus fleet comprising 7-metre, 9-metre and 12-metre buses, allowing authorities to deploy vehicles according to the requirements of different routes.
JSCL Chief Executive Officer Dr Devansh Yadav said the expansion would strengthen Jammu’s public transport system and support the city’s transition towards cleaner, smarter and more passenger-friendly mobility.
The 75 buses are part of Lot-16 under PM-eBus Sewa Tender-3 and have been specifically allocated to Jammu. Once the remaining contractual formalities are completed, the buses will be introduced into the city’s public transport network.
