Three women were seriously injured after being attacked by a bear in two separate areas of Mandi tehsil in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Thursday.
According to local residents, the bear attacked the women in the Biddar and Chhamber areas while they were engaged in their routine daily work. The sudden attacks left all three women with serious injuries.
With the help of local residents and police personnel, the injured women were rushed to the Sub-District Hospital, Mandi, for treatment. Due to the severity of their injuries, two of the women were referred to District Hospital Poonch after receiving initial medical care.
The injured women have been identified as Najma Akhtar, daughter of Abdul Karim and a resident of Chhamber; Shaheen Akhtar, wife of Mohammad Parvez and a resident of Biddar; and Gulnaz Akhtar, wife of Jalal Din and a resident of Biddar.
Doctors said that two of the women sustained critical injuries and are undergoing treatment at District Hospital Poonch, while the third woman, who suffered comparatively minor injuries, is being treated at Sub-District Hospital Mandi.
The incident has created panic among residents of the area, who have urged the authorities to take immediate measures to prevent further attacks by wild animals.
