A sense of anger and tension was reported in a village in Jammu following the death of a woman identified as Sushma. The incident brought her family members and local residents together, with the deceased woman’s relatives demanding a fair investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
According to Sushma’s family, she had allegedly been facing harassment at her matrimonial home for some time. The family further alleged that she had faced physical assault on earlier occasions and that demands for dowry, including a motorcycle and other items, had allegedly been made by members of her in-laws’ family. These allegations are yet to be independently verified.
The family said they were informed about Sushma’s death and subsequently reached the spot. Following the incident, a number of villagers gathered and expressed concern over the circumstances of her death. They demanded that the authorities conduct a transparent and impartial investigation and take strict legal action against anyone found responsible.
The family also raised concerns regarding the last rites and sought the administration’s intervention. Police personnel were deployed at the spot to maintain the situation and ensure that the legal procedures were followed. The post-mortem examination was also mentioned as part of the process to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
At present, the exact cause of Sushma’s death and the responsibility, if any, of other individuals remain subject to investigation. The allegations made by the family will have to be established through the post-mortem findings, police investigation and other evidence collected during the probe. Further action will depend on the findings of the authorities.
