Srinagar: A heated exchange between a senior IAS officer and a woman JKAS officer during a Mission YUVA review meeting in Jammu and Kashmir has triggered controversy, with the JKAS fraternity seeking an impartial probe into the alleged use of abusive language and threats of suspension.
According to media reports, the incident took place on October 14 during a review meeting chaired by Kumar Rajeev Ranjan, Administrative Secretary of the Labour and Employment Department. Beenish Wani, Assistant Director at the District Employment and Counselling Centre in Ganderbal, participated in the meeting through video conferencing.
During the meeting, a disagreement reportedly arose over the role of the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM). The discussion became heated, and the senior officer allegedly used inappropriate language and spoke about initiating suspension-related action against the woman officer.
A video purportedly showing the exchange circulated on social media, drawing attention to the conduct of officials during official meetings. The woman officer reportedly objected to the language used during the interaction.
Following the incident, members of the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) fraternity expressed concern over the alleged misconduct and called for an impartial investigation. They maintained that while official performance reviews and accountability are essential, they should be conducted with dignity and professionalism.
The JKAS fraternity has reportedly urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo and the General Administration Department (GAD) to examine the matter and ensure accountability. It has also called for protection against any possible retaliatory action against the woman officer.
The controversy has renewed discussions about professional conduct, mutual respect and accountability within the administration. An impartial inquiry is being sought to establish the facts and determine whether any action is warranted.
