J&K Govt Announces Free Public Transport for Differently-Abled Persons, JKRTC and Smart City E-Buses Included

The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved free public transport services for differently-abled persons across the Union Territory, providing them relief from paying fares while travelling on eligible public transport services.

The decision is aimed at making public transportation more accessible and affordable for persons with disabilities and follows the government’s budget announcement made earlier this year regarding free public transport facilities for differently-abled persons.

As per the decision, the benefit will cover buses operated by the Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC). The facility will also be available on e-buses operated by Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) and Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL).

The move is expected to provide financial relief to differently-abled passengers who depend on public transport for commuting to work, educational institutions, healthcare facilities and other essential services.

The government’s decision is also aimed at promoting greater accessibility and inclusion in the public transportation system of Jammu and Kashmir. By extending the facility to both JKRTC buses and Smart City e-buses, the administration has sought to cover major public transport services operating in the Union Territory.

The initiative is being seen as an important step towards implementing the government’s commitment to improving mobility and accessibility for differently-abled citizens and ensuring that transportation does not become a financial barrier for them.
