A major road accident was reported at Sangoor Chowk on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Udhampur, where a tanker carrying petrol overturned and fell into a roadside drain.
According to the initial information, the tanker was travelling from Jammu towards Udhampur when it met with the accident near Sangoor Chowk. The exact cause of the accident is not yet known and further details are awaited.
The tanker reportedly suffered damage in the accident, following which petrol started leaking continuously. The fuel spill created concern among people gathered at the spot, as any spark or source of fire could have resulted in a major incident.
The tanker driver was reportedly safe and did not sustain serious injuries. An NHAI ambulance also reached the spot, and the driver was taken away from the accident site for further assistance.
Police and concerned authorities reached the location and efforts were initiated to secure the area and remove the overturned tanker safely.
Meanwhile, some people were seen collecting the leaking fuel in bottles and cans, despite the potential danger. The incident has raised serious safety concerns as petrol continued to leak from the damaged tanker.
Police are looking into the circumstances that led to the accident.
