A major road accident was narrowly averted in the Jatwal area of Samba district, Jammu, after a superfast bus carrying around 45 passengers lost control and crashed into an electricity pole along the roadside.
The collision triggered panic among the passengers, with chaos breaking out at the scene. Fortunately, all those on board escaped with their lives. However, several passengers sustained minor injuries.
Local residents, along with police personnel, rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the District Hospital in Samba, where they are receiving treatment.
Police reached the accident site soon after receiving information about the incident, assessed the situation, and registered a case. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident.
According to local residents, road accidents have become increasingly frequent in the Jatwal area. They blamed the poor condition of the road, deep potholes, and inadequate maintenance for the rising number of accidents. Residents also claimed that a truck met with an accident in the same area late the previous night.
Locals said that several potholes on the road are difficult to spot, particularly for drivers using the route for the first time, making them more vulnerable to accidents. They have urged the administration to carry out immediate road repairs and strengthen safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
