The Transport Department has introduced a new facility to make driving licence renewal more convenient for citizens across Jammu and Kashmir. Under the new system, driving licences that have expired less than one year ago will be eligible for auto-approval renewal, subject to the prescribed requirements.
Transport Commissioner J&K Vishesh Mahajan announced that eligible applicants will no longer be required to physically visit Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) or Assistant Regional Transport Offices (ARTOs) for renewal. The required formalities can now be completed online from home, after which applicants can obtain a printout of their renewed driving licence.
The initiative is expected to reduce physical visits to transport offices, minimise paperwork and speed up the processing of eligible renewal applications.
Vehicle Ownership Transfer Also Covered
The Transport Department has also highlighted the facility of auto approval for vehicle ownership transfers through e-KYC. Introduced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the facility allows eligible applicants to complete ownership-transfer formalities online after fulfilling the required e-KYC process.
Vehicle owners have been advised to keep their e-KYC details updated to avoid delays and ensure smooth processing of ownership-transfer applications.
Citizens Advised to Use Official Platforms
The department has advised citizens to use only the official Parivahan and Sarathi platforms for driving licence and vehicle-related services.
People have also been cautioned against using unauthorised agents, intermediaries, fraudulent websites or mobile applications claiming to provide government transport services.
The digital initiatives are aimed at making transport services faster, paperless, transparent and more accessible, while reducing citizens’ dependence on physical visits to government offices across Jammu and Kashmir.
