Class 7 Student Locked Inside J&K School After Falling Asleep, Entire Staff Suspended

A shocking case of negligence has surfaced from Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, where a Class 7 student was accidentally locked inside a government school after falling asleep in his classroom. The incident has prompted swift action from the Education Department, with the entire school staff being suspended pending an inquiry.

The incident occurred at Government Middle School Karwah in the Banihal education zone. According to officials, the student fell asleep at his desk after school hours. Unaware that the child was still inside, teachers and other staff members locked all classrooms and the main gate before leaving the premises.

Several hours later, the student woke up and found himself trapped inside the locked school building. Hearing his cries for help, a passerby alerted others and managed to rescue the child. A video of the incident soon went viral on social media, triggering widespread criticism.

Taking serious note of the lapse, the Chief Education Officer (CEO), Ramban, suspended all nine staff members, including teachers and support staff, with immediate effect. A three-member inquiry committee has also been constituted to investigate the incident and submit its report within the stipulated time.

Officials said strict action will be taken against those found responsible, emphasizing that the safety and security of students cannot be compromised under any circumstances.
