Major Scare in Jammu as Lightning Hits Residential House, Family Moves to Safety Before the Incident

A house belonging to Joginder Sharma in Prem Nagar Basti of Badial Brahmana, RS Pura area of Jammu was severely damaged after a lightning strike amid heavy rain, strong winds and hailstorm during the night. Fortunately, the family narrowly escaped the incident after moving to another house shortly before the lightning struck.
According to Joginder Sharma, the incident occurred at around 9:00 to 9:15 PM when lightning and thunder intensified. The family was inside the house when his young daughter suggested moving to another place because of the severe weather. The family shifted to a different house, and shortly afterwards, a loud blast was heard as lightning struck their home.
The damaged house has raised concerns about the family’s living conditions and need for assistance. During a ground report, Joginder Sharma alleged that he had been submitting documents and making efforts to obtain assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for the past 10 to 12 years, but had not received any benefit so far.
He further stated that officials from the Block Development Office (BDO) had visited the area around five to six months ago, taken photographs and collected bank account details, but the family was still awaiting assistance.
During the report, the reporter appealed to local MLA Ghru Ram Bhagat, Panchayat representatives and the concerned administration to visit the affected family and provide necessary support. The reporter also urged the authorities to take immediate steps to help the family secure safe housing.
The incident has highlighted the difficulties faced by the affected family, which is now dealing with damage to its house following the lightning strike.
The official assessment of the damage and the family’s eligibility for government assistance are yet to be confirmed.
