Jammu: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) carried out a demolition drive in Jammu’s Nai Basti area, where several shops were demolished in the presence of police personnel. The action triggered anger and resentment among local shopkeepers and residents.
According to the affected shopkeepers, the government had assured them that they would be provided the keys to alternative shops before their existing shops were demolished. However, they allege that the demolition was carried out before the new shops were handed over to them.
The shopkeepers said these businesses were their main source of livelihood and supported their families. They claimed that the demolition has left them without both their shops and their source of income.
The affected residents have appealed to the government to provide them alternative shops at the earliest so that they can restart their businesses and ensure the livelihood of their families.
